Episode 6 | 5 Ways to Stand Out Above the Crowd

Have you ever felt like you were lost in obscurity? Maybe you stepped into a position that you didn’t believe that you were fully equipped for. Perhaps there was a time when you knew that you would be an amazing candidate for a position but found yourself lost on the shuffle of other candidates. This is the perfect time to take a moment to prepare yourself to stand out. I don’t mean that you need to be obnoxious or petty. What I am saying is that perhaps it is time for you to rise up above the competition and get at it.

I know – sounds like I am making a sales pitch for a self-help book. Certainly, that is not the case…or is it? The Bible – which I lean on for instruction- is a self-help book. It is a guide to help you get through the tough times and to celebrate in the good times. There are multiple ways that you can stand out in the eyes of God and man.

1.  Be a person of integrity. To me, this is a dying art. How often do we hear someone say something that is completely untrue? Do you know the name of a person that is habitually late for everything? I can attest to both of these ideals. If you are a person of integrity – you will certainly stand out in today’s society.
2.  Be a person who is genuine. It is hard to believe that I have to mention that, however, it’s true. Do you know someone that is completely fake? Yes – someone, who is one way here yet at home they are another way!
3.  Be a hard worker.  Seriously? It is true. When others seem to work less, working hard is noticeable and you will surely stand out.
4. Be fearless. What I mean about this is that it is vital that you are confident towards your leader. A leader, a true one, does not want someone groveling to them. They do not want someone who is constantly fearful of asking questions or taking initiative. Take the first step and be fearless.
5. Be Smart. I certainly would hope that you wouldn’t want to be dumb. Obviously, if you are reading a blog on this – you are not dumb. What I am saying, however, is to be smart. Read. Learn. Grow. Don’t limit yourself by your position or by your pay grade. I hear this phrase often and want to scream – “that’s above my pay grade.” You are right! And you will always stay at that pay grade!

Your life is your brand. Every place you go, every person that you run into, every face you see; each area of your life is a brand. I love the above quote because it shows that in order to stand out – you have to be abnormal. So…go and be abnormal!
