“Sometimes, you have to look back in order to understand the things that lie ahead.”
I am not one to dwell on the past. After many years fighting anxiety, fear, worry, and all the other things that come with it, I have purposed to look ahead. I have to admit that even though I don’t like to dwell there, I like to visit there. Why? I don’t believe that I would appreciate where I am if I did not recall where I came.
The year 2018 brought a lot of surprises after the “crisis” of 2017. I had to overcome fear at a whole new level. Not that 2018 was a horrible year. It was a challenging year. I had to overcome the fear of losing a job, the fear of not having enough finances to support my family, the fear of messing things up, and so much more. What I learned in 2018 is these two things; no matter where you are on the journey, God will get you through it if you allow Him and He will lead you to victory.
I recall one particular situation where I was at a loss as to what I needed to do. Through the whole ordeal, I wanted to do something. However, that small whisper quoted the scripture;
“Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
2 Chronicles 20:15
I had to hold onto this and not allow fear to get a hold of me in this season. Things settled down and I am at a place of peace, thankfully I can rest in Him and not in the fears that try to conquer me.
What has 2018 taught you? I would love to hear your thoughts!
