“There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”
– Nelson Mandela
Recently, I lost my day job. For nearly ten years, I woke up at 4:30 am and drove to what I believed would be my forever job, my ending career, only to find out the contrary. I woke up on normal Monday morning to find that I would be coming home in a not so normal way. At first, I was hurt. Later, I realized something that was unusual. I found myself in a position that I had not been in for a long time and that I something new – choices!
Many people began to recommend new jobs, calling connections for me, and encouraging me throughout this process. A well meaning relative said in regards to any job opportunities that came up “put your hand to anything and God will honor it.” The only problem with that statement is this – it is false. I know – hear me out on this. If you do not use wisdom and settle for just anything that comes across your path then you haven’t accomplished anything. You are simply settling.
Sunday, I picked up an application for a fast food place. I started to fill it out but I had a hesitation. The question came up in my heart – am I settling? Now, I am not saying that you should hold out until you lose everything. I am just saying that you should not settle for a job that you know that you are going to hate or lose your soul over. Don’t settle for just anything. Ask for direction and wisdom. Move forward on what you believe is your next opportunity.
